Teaching Ideas and Investigations

Teaching ideas, problem solving, investigations and resource collections for secondary mathematics. Use the links below to find tasks and adapt them to your class.

Classroom ideas

  • Start with a conjecture: ask students to test examples, find counterexamples and explain why a pattern holds.
  • Compare methods: invite students to solve the same problem in different ways and discuss which representations help.
  • Extend an investigation: change one condition, record results and ask students to justify what stays the same.
  • Finish with reflection: ask what students noticed, what they can explain and what they would investigate next.
